She hesitated with a torn look in her eyes as she glanced at my brothers.
Dean stalked forward, shoving his hands in his pockets. “Some angel was our ancestor and decided to turn in their wings for mortality. They procreated with a human, which is what resulted in us. Gabriel explained our blood could be used for numerous dark rituals and that if our existence got out, we’d be in danger. Especially considering who dear old dad is.”
I gritted my teeth. Dean was acting like a real asshole, and I knew why. He blamed me for Corbin’s death. He was his best friend after all, so I should’ve expected it, but it didn’t ease the pain it caused me. “And?”
“And we killed ourselves.”
I’m sorry, what? I blinked. “You all took your lives because your lives were in danger?” I spoke slowly. “That makes no fucking sense.”
“It wasn’t just our lives on Earth, sweetheart.” Mom patted my cheek. “It was our souls.”
“But…I live in Hell. If you were sent there, you wouldn’t be tortured or anything.”
Dean snorted, and Hunter smacked his chest. “Shut up.”
“It wasn’t like that,” Gabriel’s smooth, manipulative voice echoed off the walls as he came over. “Your family could’ve been used for many sacrifices that obliterated the soul.”
What he did was instigate the mass suicide of my family. He's as fanatical as a bloody cult leader.
“How can I trust anything you say?” I snapped.
“I’ll ask again, darling. How do you think you’re part angel?”
Dormant angel blood ran through Mom’s side. So that meant… “Oh, fuck.”
He nodded. “Your father specifically targeted Mia for the conceivement ritual because of her blood. He could’ve easily created you the same way as before.”
“No, he—”
“Yes.” He cut off my protest. “He could’ve reincarnated you the same way he created you in the first place with the help of the seers and a witch to retrieve both your soul and memories, but he didn’t. And you know why?”
My head was spinning from all this information, but it was Gabriel telling me so it could all be bullshit. But then again…I didn’t know reincarnation could be forced. “Why?”
“Because he knew your abilities were unstable. You held such a strong amount of dark powers as a full demon. You had the potential to be on the same level as a King of Hell, but without a title. That offset the balance.”
I scoffed, crossing my arms. The leather gaped open from the movement, and I realized I had forgotten it was torn open. I ended up covering myself the best I could. “Would you have still killed me if I had chosen you over Aziel?”
He stilled, his eyes widening a fraction. “I admit, I killed you in a fit of jealousy. I don’t know if I would’ve been able to carry out the task if you hadn’t chosen Aziel.”
I ran my fingers over my arm to pat down the goosebumps. “So why did Dad…King Zelek…do this ritual to have me reincarnated?”
“To create the perfect weapon. Now that your angel side has awakened, you’re able to use your powers for anything without tipping the scale. You’re balance in a living body. Both angel and demon.”
“But I’m also a vampire.”
“And that hasn’t affected anything with balance. It’s only strengthened you.”
I huffed, running my hands through my hair. “How do you even know that?”
He avoided my gaze and cleared his throat. “When Carmilla injected you with holy water, it awakened your dormant angel blood.”
Sighing, I rubbed the back of my neck. “So you put her up to that?”
“No, I didn’t. I did have a suspicion that you were part angel, but her doing that confirmed it.”
“What if you injected my family with holy water? Would it awaken them as full angels?”
Dean let out a scoff. “Of course not. We’re not as fucking special as you.”
