... Months later

“I forgot how tiny.” I laugh as I hold on to the baby, and I can feel everyone’s eyes on me in the room and I look down, smiling at her little face.

“She’s perfect,” Axe smirks down next to me and he leans in, kissing the side of my head. Everyone’s eyes move from him and back to me and I know they are all wondering the same thing.

I hand the little baby back over to Caroline, who smiles. “Thanks for holding her for a while. I just needed to shower.”

“You’re good. I kind of remember.” We smirk as I just nod my head again.

“You guys going to try for another?” Caroline finally asks. I know she’s been dying to ask us that since we got back together.

“Um, it doesn’t look good.” I laugh at their looks.

“What do you mean?” Ash asks.

“I had some complications last time and the probability of it happening again is pretty low.”

“Shit.” Ash mutters and Caroline’s mouth falls open.

“What do you mean? Why didn’t you tell me that before?” I look at her, eyes widening. She just completely called herself out, but she just waves them off.

“Well, I also didn’t tell you I had a kid, and I felt like the two were connected.” It causes her to laugh before she nods her head.

“I just wish you would have. I would have helped.”

“Yeah, but…” I don’t add that she would have told Axe and then everyone would have been up there to help and that’s not what I needed at that moment.

“Wait?!” Ash raises his voice, looking over. “You two talked while she was gone.”

“Yes.” Caroline laughs.

“But…”

“Ash, how do you think you found the number?” She asks, and I can’t help but laugh out loud.

“Son of a bitch. You led me right to it.” She nods her head. “How?”

“She kept calling me until I finally called her back.” I explain to Ash, who just shakes his head.

“You are something else…” he tells his wife before he laughs again.

“Yeah,” Caroline adds. “We talked every few weeks. I made her check in. Made sure she was okay. Obviously, I didn’t know about Jag, but…” she shrugs, and I laugh at Ash’s shocked face.

Axe reaches for my hand, and we walk out the backdoor and look at everyone outside. The kids are playing. Everything that I’ve needed right there. This family.

In my head, I imagine my dad standing in the corner of the yard where Khan and Fury are. He laughs along with them.

“You, okay?” Axe asks me and I nod my head.

“Yeah, I’m good.” A smile slowly spreads on my face as I inhale air. Axe cuts his eyes, glaring at me and steps in.

“Woman, I swear to god if you go pterodactyl right now. I’m going to punish the shit out of you when we get home.”

“You don’t scare me.” I laugh as he holds a straight face.

“Oh yeah,” his egotistical smirk spreads on his face.

“Yeah.” I tilt my head as I watch him tap his chest with his index finger. His way of telling me I’m toeing a very thin line.
