"What were you doing here last night?"Alison asked.

Diana looked from Moore to Alison."I was finalizing the article," she said slowly."What’s going on?"

Moore glanced to the side at Alison before looking back at Diana and presenting what had happened."Judge Greene was found dead in his chambers this morning. He was brutally murdered."

"Oh, my goodness," Diana said. She brought her hand to her mouth naturally.Nothing looked forced about her reaction."That’s terrible."

"Do the names Richard Langford and Patricia Holland mean anything to you?"Alison asked.

"Yes," Diana replied, still holding her hand to her mouth."I don't understand what’s going on.What’s happened? What happened to Judge Greene?I can take the article down."

"That might be best," Alison said."How do you know Langford and Holland?"Alison asked.

Diana removed her hand from her mouth and stared at Alison as if she’d been asked a trick question.

"Look, I know I’ve spoken out about them, but I would never do anything to hurt them," Diana said."Has something happened to them?"

"What might have happened to them?"Moore asked.

"I don't know," Diana claimed. She shed her stoic shell and became more emotional, her voice cracking as she spoke."I don't know what you think I’ve done, but I haven't hurt anyone. Not Judge Greene, and not anyone else.I think I will speak to my lawyer.I’m not answering any more questions until I speak to my lawyer."

"Okay," Moore said, reaching for her handcuffs."Let’s take a little trip downtown."

CHAPTER THIRTEEN

Detective Moore walked into the station holding Diana’s arm.She lifted her eyebrows to the officer on the desk, and she pressed a button behind the desk to unlock the door to the right with a loud buzz.Moore pushed through with Diana, and Alison followed behind.

"I’ll take you to booking, and once we have you in the system, we can call your lawyer to come down here," Moore said.

Diana kept her mouth closed, not saying a word.

"Captain wants to see you," Office Briggs called as he approached.

"I’m on my way to booking," Moore replied.

"Is that…Is she…?"the officer asked, looking at Diana. His eyes were wide with surprise.

"What’s going on?"Alison asked."Something’s happened.Has there been a development?"

"Yeah," the officer stated, his eyes flickering between Alison and the suspect who had just been brought in."I can take her to booking. You should go and talk with the Captain."

Moore stopped walking. She looked at the officer, then at Alison.Alison nodded.Something had happened while they were away, and they needed to find out what.

"Diana Shepherd," Moore told the officer."Book her and then call her lawyer. No one’s to talk to her until I get back, okay?"

"Got it," Officer Briggs said.

Moore let go of Diana's arms, and Officer Briggs took her away.

Moore strode off quietly, with Alison hurrying to catch up.Neither of them paused as they headed for the Captain’s office.Alison tried to figure out what had happened since they’d been gone.It was obviously connected to the current investigation. They can't have had another death.

"Good," Captain Lawson said when they arrived at his office.

Alison hadn’t met the Captain before, but he made no move to introduce himself, and from the way he spoke comfortably in her presence, he knew who Alison was.

"They just found a fourth victim," the Captain said.

"What?"Alison gasped. She’d thought it might be the case, but it was still shocking.
