“Him.” He pointed to the half-shaven driver, and I smiled.

Nathem didn’t think about the hot barrel or the way the other man would look with a hole through the center of his chest. He just walked right over to him and nodded at Blade to clean it up.

“You’re coming with me.” I knelt low, removing my belt, and strapped it around the alive one’s neck. “Getting hard?” I asked, tossing a glance at Wolfe because I wanted him to know I’d seen the puckers of skin along her neckline when she led me from the shower. So not only had my fearless leader fucked her in the alley, he’d collared my girl there, too.

Wolfe’s eyes darkened, but he knew better than to press me. In fact, of anyone in our club, Wolfe did not fuck with me. We were on different sides of the same coin, and if a line were ever drawn, he would lose Daphne forever. That, I did not give a shit about. Let him. This was all his goddamn fault, and he knew it.

I dragged the quiet one behind me by his throat, impressed by the way he kept still. It wasn’t bravery. Hell, it wasn’t even loyalty. We all belonged to something, but in the shadows, the real roulette we played was with ourselves. He understood we just needed to know what was worth dying for.

“String him up and pull down his pants,” I nodded to Nathem, who did as he was told, creating an X shape on the brick wall in the form of a body.

I withdrew, sitting on a crate behind me to get a better look at him. The way his silence breathed made me wonder how much we could get from something so resolved. Maybe I was wrong. Maybe Wolfe didn’t have the magic tonight, and he was just like everyone else.

“What is your name?” I asked, taking out the rolled set of knives and choosing my favorite. It was small, with a little hook I liked to run through my teeth.

“What does it matter?” he asked, spitting on the ground.

“BecausePiece of Shitlooks rather ugly on a tombstone, no?” I popped my neck.

“We both know I’m not getting one of those.”

Yes, we did.

“Look. You’re seasoned, and I respect that, but unless you want five knives driven into your flimsy excuse for a dick, you’ll tell me your name.”

Silence.

“Fine. I tried to be nice.”

“You really did,” Wolfe crossed his arms behind me in a slow shrug.

The metal felt cold, and this was the part I had to block Daphne from. Not the literal her, but the parts of her that lived inside me. She was all babies and first breaths, but I was none of those things.

“Here we go!” I bounced my brows at him, driving the icy blade into his squishy, old man nuts.

“FUCK!” The piece of shit lurched because you never know how much pain the body can really feel until you realize it can be endless. “Fuck you. It’s Matterhorn.”

I made a face, shifting my eyes to Wolfe, who only shook his head.

“That is a ride at Disneyland.”

“It is still the one they gave me,” he groaned.

“Whatever you say, Captain Bobsled. Why the hell were you tailing us tonight?” I asked.

“Karsten released a new list.” He swallowed, choking on the pain. “Some face with no name, but we all think it’s Wolfe’s new queen. Lyla or Layla, or some shit like that.”

My eyes swept to Wolfe, who breathed too loudly to be natural.

“And you thought what? She was in the trunk?”

“No. We had an idea to corner some of the lesser ones. Make them talk.”

“Lesser?” Jessie laughed, stepping forward to beat the hell out of him, but I sent him back with a look.

“Yeah. Wear them down, get them to tell us who she is.” His eyes started to roll, so I dug the knife a little deeper. “Fuck, man,” he moaned, and not from pleasure.

“How much is she going for?” I cocked my head to the side.
