Rebel leaned over, kissed Brit’s cheek. “You look beautiful,” he whispered in her ear.
She’d thrown on a brightly-colored peasant top and black bohemian skirt, clasped a turquoise choker around her neck. Paired her outfit with western boots. Her oils and water colors were primarily of the west, so she wanted to pay homage to a place she’d loved calling home.
“Can I get a private tour?” he whispered.
Energy soared up her arm, straight to her heart.
Before she could answer, a man joined their group, squeezing in between Liliana and Honor.
“This is my husband, Jordan Krause,” Liliana said.
Looking to be in his fifties, Jordan was on the short side with a round face and a decent physique.
“I’m an art collector, and I’m always on the lookout to add another piece,” Jordan said.
“I don’t think we’ve got any walls left for art, but these are definitely beautiful,” Honor added.
“All of Liliana’s daughters are very talented,” Jordan said. “Honor wrote a book about life lessons learned while living in a cult.”
Honor smiled up at him. “You’re so sweet to mention that, but I already told them.”
Jordan put his arm around Honor. “Can’t I be a proud dad?”
“I especially love your painting of the family at the beach,” Honor said. “I’ve never been to the beach.”
What?
“Never?” Rebel asked.
“No,” Honor replied.
The sadness in her eyes had Brit placing a comforting hand on her sister’s back. “We’ll have a sister’s beach adventure this summer.”
Honor’s face lit up. “I would love that so much.”
“Mom, too?” Liliana asked.
“No, Mom,” Honor replied. “Just sisters.”
Liliana’s shoulders slumped. While Brit could have felt sorry for her, she didn’t.
Z, Addison, and Hawk joined the group. “I need to stealmygirls away.”
Brit bit back a smile.
“Are you making a speech?” Liliana asked.
“I am,” Z replied.
“I’d love to say something?—”
“No.” Z’s biting tone had all eyes on him.
“That’s so not happening,” Brit piled on.
Z gestured for Brit and Addison to head to the front.
“You first, Dad,” Brit said.
