“Another bride has been revealed,” I say out loud.
“You know you won’t win against Lucifer,” Barnael states from his cell.
I have kept Barnael prisoner for quite sometime. It only took this long for Lucifer to realize one of his friends was gone. He was always so selfish, never thinking of anyone but his family; a family that should have been mine.
Lilith is supposed to be mine. He took her from me. Now, I will watch him crumble as I take everything from him.
Believe me, I have tried many times over the years to get his crown. He had bested me at every turn; not that he knew it was me that was trying to overthrow him.
It wasn’t until a couple decades ago when it occurred to me that if I weakened his children, he would be weakened too since he put parts of himself in each one.
I just didn’t know how to find the brides until a decade ago. I decided to have my fun with the first one and let her suffer. When she wasn’t there that night, and I ended up killing her family instead of her, I knew I had to punish her in some other way.
Her heart was beating so slowly I thought she was minutes from death, but I should have stayed to make sure the life left her eyes. I won’t make that mistake again.
Now I can sense when the next daughter will be revealed. I still have a connection to Lucifer, although he doesn’t know it.
I had used a couple witches that I had bedded over the years to conceal me from him. I had to fake my death so I could work on my plan to take him down without being discovered.
“Lucifer doesn’t even know I’m alive,” I tell him dismissively.
I look at my old friend, Bernael. I had to chain him to the cell which was enchanted so he can’t be located or use his powers. Otherwise, he would escape and tell Lucifer my plan.
Some things can’t be revealed yet.
I close my eyes and find the string that connects Wrath to his bride and follow the tether so I can find where she is.
Some of the brides are hard to find, and some I have found easily. This one has been hard to find.
I smirk when I find her.
Time to destroy a life.
Chapter Nineteen
Serenity
We spent a week on our side of the palace without anyone bugging us. They must have been counting down a week’s time to give us a bit of a honeymoon. This became obvious when, on our eighth day of being left alone, we were suddenly requested to attend family dinner.
We spend time actually getting ready before making our way to the family common area. After spending the week without often wearing clothes, it felt strange to be dressing up again.
Everyone but Lorenzo is already seated.
I notice a red chair appear beside his chair which brings a smile to my face. Let’s face it, there is too much male energy around here. I need some women.
“Lorenzo already left to get my new daughter. I’m not sure how he’s going to go about it, but I have a feeling he won’t wait long,” Lucifer says once we sit down.
“How was the honeymoon, guys?” Gareth asks with a smirk.
I grab a roll from the table and throw it at him.
“None of your business or I might just let a secret drop,” I tease.
He narrows his eyes at me.
“I don’t like that you know that,” he replies.
I can’t help but laugh.
